Father Moloney's Weekly Message
Dear Friends of Saint Kevin,
There are things which symbolize a person’s life. They oftentimes reflect their work, their hobbies, their habits, or their physical qualities. As Christians, we have symbols that reflect our life in Christ. They are the symbols of Easter: the holy water, the Easter candle and the white garment. These symbols first appear on the day of our Baptism. The last time they appear is at our funeral. Throughout our lives these symbols come into our lives to remind us who we are, what we are to do, and where we are going.
Since the symbols of our Christian life are first and foremost Easter symbols, Easter is the perfect time to reflect upon their meaning for our lives. The holy water recalls our Baptism. It is the perfect symbol because water cleanses and gives us life. In the water, we are washed clean of our sins as we are united with Jesus Christ. But water also can bring death.
