What is scrip?
Scrip is a term that means “substitute money”. When you purchase scrip, you are purchasing negotiable gift certificates (gift cards) that are used just like cash. Scrip is issued by national and local retailers where you already shop. These merchants want to support non profit organizations, and in return ask that you support them by shopping with scrip in their stores.
For example if you buy $100.00 in Acme scrip, you get $100.00 in gift cards to be spent at the Acme. We get a 5% discount. 2% of that $100.00($2.00) goes to St. Kevin and 3% ($3.00) goes toward your child’s tuition. (If you don’t use the whole amount when you shop the balance remains on the card for a future shopping trip.) If you shop at the Acme once a week and spent $100.00 you would have saved $144.00 off tuition in one year. This is just an example. The discount varies according to the merchant. Most certificates are good for approximately one year.
How can I purchase scrip?
Scrip can be purchased Monday thru Thursday between 9a.m and 3p.m. in the Parish Life Center Office or by placing an order form with your payment in the lock box located in the entrance foyer to the Parish life center offices ( next to the freezer) any time to be filled on Tuesday mornings. Pick up can be arranged on an individual basis during the summer hours.
How do I order scrip through the lock box?
There are two types of scrip that can be ordered. Form 1 lists the stores that are available to send the scrip home to you that same day. These include Acme, Kohls, Giant, The Works, Pathmark and Drexel Line as well as a few of the retail stores we have on hand. Form 2 is for the Great Lakes Scrip Company which offers over 400 Retailers to us at a variety of discounts. These orders will be on a one week delay. The actual scrip from form 2 will not be sent home until the following week. Place all orders in the lockbox prior to Tuesday morning and we will process all Form 1 orders once a week and all Form 2 orders every other week.
What Great Lakes Scrip Retailers can I purchase?
The Great Lakes Scrip Company offers over 400 Retailers to us at a variety of discounts. Visit http://www.glscrip.com/retailerlist/index.aspx for a list of all the retailers. If there is one that you would like to order that is not on Form 2 just write it in and we will be sure to get it for you.
