The sisters of Saint Joseph arrived at St. Kevin's on August 29, 1957 to be the faculty for the elementary school. Mother Mary Celine, Sister Helen Walter, Sister Mary Rose and Sister Maria Virginia took up residence in what was once the servants quarters for the Walsh Estate (now the site of the Child Care Center). A chapel was added and the altar taken from "The Little Chapel on the Hill." The sisters lived there for five years.
The one story school and basement multipurpose room were completed for the school opening on September 4, 1957 with an enrollment of 344 pupils. Thus began a tradition of service and education by the Sisters of St. Joseph to St. Kevin Parish. The original faculty of four Sisters was supplemented by three lay teachers, Miss Kane, Miss Hoyt and Miss Rechner. On April 19, 1958, First Holy Communion was received by 110 children. The first class (13 boys and 15 girls) graduated on June 11, 1958.
